Yes, a vintage wedding is everything self-proclaimed old souls could ever wish for! Katie and Ryan’s vintage-inspired wedding was absolute perfection. From Katie’s dress to classic 1900s-styled cars, their wedding day embodied romance, elegance, and pure love.
Katie and Ryan met on their very first day of high school. They both took summer school before freshman year to get a head start on their academics. Talk about having some common ground right at the get-go – motivation! The first thing Katie noticed about Ryan was that he was cute, and she was impressed that he got there before she did because she showed up very early. Katie liked him for an entire year, but because Ryan was oblivious to her affections, she had to make the first move. Yeah, girl power! One day, Katie showed up at his locker and invited herself to walk with him to homeroom. This move led to them dating for a few months during their sophomore year before parting ways. Don’t fret, though, because obviously this love story isn’t over! After all, I did just photograph their vintage wedding.
Although they dated other people for the next two years, they eventually got back together at the end of their senior year. They have been together over five years now, and Ryan proposed to his future bride in July of 2015.
Katie and Ryan describe themselves as old souls. Their friends even call them the grandparents of the group, and sometimes call them by their middle names (Helen and Gerald) because they make them sound even more like an old couple. That is so adorable! In college, these lovebirds preferred to stay home and read together rather than going out to the bars on Friday night. They make a lot of weird faces and love to make each other laugh. Katie and Ryan also have a strong faith in God and are continually growing together. Finally, they are best friends. Although they met when they were fourteen, Katie feels as though she has known her man for an entire lifetime already, and he feels the same. Emily Bronte says it best: “Whatever our souls are made of, his and mind are the same.” I couldn’t believe this to be more accurate. The love between these sweethearts is incredible!
In May 2018, Katie and Ryan said “I do” at the Cog Hill Country Club in Lemont, IL. Their vintage wedding was one that resonated with these old souls! From colors of navy and cream to the groom’s gift of pocket watches, there was an air of vintage of whimsy added to Katie and Ryan’s day. They also decorated with vintage-style books and lanterns as their reception centerpieces to showcase their love of reading and the classics.
Throughout the ceremony and reception, it was easy to see how much Katie and Ryan care for each other. In keeping with tradition, they didn’t do a first look, which made the moment Katie walked down the aisle that much more emotional. When Ryan first set eyes on his bride, his eyes welled with happy tears, and it was beautiful!
Following their romantic and vintage-inspired day, they headed to Door County, WI for a short trip. Their official honeymoon will be a few months later to Mackinac Island, MI. Can’t wait to see these “old souls” actually grow old together. Wishing you all happiness and joy in your journey, Katie and Ryan!
